Doors in Art

Doors have long been used within the symbolism of art. Picasso makes a fascinating use of doors and doorways in Las Meninas. The large oak door in the background of the painting is the crux deciding the meaning of the painting. The oak door, as an internal door, could be a reflection or a reality. Oak doors, pine doors, knotty pine doors and a wide variety of doors have featured in both classical and modern art. Obviously the symbol of a door can signify exclusion, entrance, beginnings and separation. The positioning of a door can indicate this whether it is an internal or interior door, or an external or exterior door. The use of doors in art was particularly prominent in the sixteenth century and during the Symbolist and Romantic movements. Although the purchase of an interior door or exterior door is not an art form it is still important to consider the choice between American oak doors, knotty pine doors and clear pine doors. Your choice of door affects the aesthetics of your home much like a piece of art does. |
