A rare table has sold for around £40,000 at auction after being identified as the 'missing piece' created by a furniture legend.
As reported by the Buckingham Advertiser, the 19th century side table was originally thought to be in the style of a leading designer in the Arts and Crafts Movement.
However, John Dickins of Dickins Auctioneers in Middle Claydon investigated the piece and found it was actually a unique 'missing' table, lost since the 1970s and originally created by Edward William Godwin, head of the famous Aesthetic Movement.
A spokesperson for Dickins explained: "E W Godwin was the Godfather of Aesthetic Movement design and at the forefront of complete house design, including the fixtures, fittings and furniture."
The table was sold for £34,000 plus premium, to an anonymous bidder.
