Pine furniture - Role of kitchen changing

The role of the British kitchen is changing, according to new research.
A recent study by Legal & General found that families now sit down to meals less often than they used to.
Only 30 per cent of households have dinner together each evening.
Just 11 per cent had breakfast in their kitchens before leaving for work - and a traditional Sunday roast was enjoyed by a mere 17 per cent of those questioned.
Activities that did still commonly take place around the kitchen table included reading papers, talking to guests, homework, drinking and browsing the internet.
Ruth Wilkins, head of communications for Legal & General's general insurance business, said: "The kitchen remains the heart of the home for most people although what they do and have in their kitchen is changing."
