Co-habiting couples should be entitled to the same home insurance rates, regardless of sexual orientation, one industry organisation has claimed.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has suggested that same-sex couples united in a Civil Partnership should receive the same protection for their home contents as married couples.
According to the organisation, the majority of the industry is behind these proposals and insurers are willing to grant the same rates to all couples.
"The insurance industry is united against discrimination and in support of treating people fairly," said ABI director of general insurance and health Nick Starling.
Recent advice from home insurance firm LV= reminded homeowners to discard of packaging for new purchases, including pinefurniture, sensibly in an attempt to deter thieves.
